Slimming and Weight Management

Obesity or excess body fat is defined as a disease by The American Obesity Association (AOA).2 Usually, anyone who is 20% over the normal/ ideal weight for his or her age, sex, build and height is considered obese.

Obesity is more than a cosmetic concern. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions, including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and respiratory problems. Ultimately, obesity can even be life-threatening.

Poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, stress, heredity factor and poor nutrition are the main causes of overweight and obesity, especially in combination. If you are overweight, losing as little as 5%-15% of your body weight over 6 months or longer can do much to improve your health.3

There are lots of reasons for people who are obese to lose weight; to be healthier, to feel better, to look better, and to have more energy. No matter what is the reason, successful weight loss and healthy weight management depend on sensible goals and expectations. Basically, there are few approaches to weight management through nutritional supplementation; by using lipotropic vitamins, which have the ability to reduce cholesterol and fat, by using diuretic herbs and nutrients to reduce water retention, and by using natural appetite suppressants to reduce the calories intake.3 However, long term weight management requires a lifetime commitment to a healthier lifestyle in general.
